Straits Area All-Conference Players Selected by Coaches
The St. Ignace Saints' Amanda Coveyou and the Rudyard Bulldogs' Emily Jeffreys shared the 2007-08 Straits Area Conference (SAC) Player of the Year award, selected by the girls basketball coaches Sunday, February 24.
Coveyou, a junior, averaged 12.3 points per game, 9.6 rebounds, and recorded a school record 80 blocked shots for the Saints.
Jeffreys, a sophomore, averaged 20 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Joining the two Players of the Year on the All-SAC First Team are Katie Knaffle and Kristie Stacks of Cheboygan, and Abbi Fegan, Jordyn Pierce, and Preston Brown of Sault Ste. Marie.
The SAC second team includes Nicole Elmblad and Marcie Rickley of St. Ignace, Erin Jarvie of Rudyard, Jenny Fleming of Rogers City, Courtney Hancock of Cheboygan, and Kayla Meehan of Sault Ste. Marie.
Area players receiving honorable mention are Jodie Langstaff of St. Ignace, Lindsie LaPointe and Betsy Wileman of Rudyard, Colleen Hoy and Holly Brown of Newberry, and Alicia Duvall of Sault Ste. Marie.
Peterson, Mortensen, Wallis
Receive First Team
Senior James Peterson and sophomore Gerrit Mortensen of St. Ignace, and senior Craig Wallis of Rudyard, were selected to the Straits Area Conference (SAC) First Team by the conference's coaches Sunday, February 24.
Other First Team selections are senior and SAC Player of the Year Tom Wolf of Cheboygan, senior Brett Karsten of Rogers City, and sophomore Nick Hancock of Cheboygan.
Second Team selections include Anthony Lester of St. Ignace, Erik Hesselink and Jeff Briggs of Rudyard, John Lafrinere of Cheboygan, Scott Kowalewsky of Rogers City, and Nick Kibble of Sault Ste. Marie.
Area players receiving honorable mention are Derek Dake of Newberry, and Ryan Bailey and Jerrod Dillon of Sault Ste. Marie.
