For the Record
Clarification is needed regarding the first Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge, which was mentioned in a story about the Mackinaw Area Visitors Bureau in The St. Ignace News Thursday, April 10. The first Labor Day bridge walk was in 1959, making 2008 the 50th year it will take place, said Bill Bertchinger, chairman of Visitors Bureau. A bridge walk occurred in 1958, as stated in the article, but it was not on Labor Day. The issue is important to the Visitors Bureau because, this fall, it plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Labor Day walk, and the 51st anniversary of the opening of the bridge to traffic, he noted.
In the April 17 issue, the article, "Visnaw, Fettig To Get St. Ignace Principal Posts," incorrectly listed Lil McDonald as one of the candidates for the principal's position, when it should have read Elaine MacDonald was one of the candidates.
