Girl Scouts Film Health Food Television Series
Girl Scout Virginia Smith (left) watches as Brownie Angel Hutchinson holds up messy hands and faces the camera, explaining how fun and easy it is for students to make pizza snacks using crackers, spaghetti sauce, and cheese. Miss Smith is a sixth grade student in St. Ignace and Miss Hutchinson is in the first grade. Area students are filming a television series on preparing healthy foods. St. Ignace Girl Scout Troop 125 and Brownie Troop 72 made party snacks Tuesday, April 29, at LaSalle High School's home economics room.
Before filming Tuesday, students were given a short script to memorize, and then explained the steps to make the snacks.
Filming of the series began in February and will finish in August.
Mary Pemble-Swiderski, a nutrition educator with Michigan University Extension in St. Ignace, received a grant from the Mackinac County Community Wellness Coalition to produce the series. The programs, said Mrs. Pemble-Swiderski, will air this fall on local cable community channels in the Eastern Upper Peninsula and in areas below the Mackinac Bridge, they will be shown in classrooms, and the programs will be available for sale.
