      The Rudyard Bulldogs boys baseball team posted a come-frombehind 8-7 win over the Black Sox of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in the semifinals, and defeated the Newberry Indians 11-8 in the title game to capture the title in the Rudyard Baseball Invitational Saturday, May 10.

Saints Girls, Boys Place Second During SAC Tri-meet

      The St. Ignace girls and boys track teams each finished second during the Straits Area Conference triangular meet at the St. Ignace Kiwanis Sports Complex Tuesday, May 6. The Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils won both divisions, scoring 85 points in the girls meet, followed by the Saints with 58 and Roger City Hurons 29. In the boys competition, the Blue Devils totaled 73.

Cedarville Boys, Pickford Girls Win EUPC 9/10 Track Meet
      The Cedarville Trojans boys and the Pickford Panthers girls captured first place at the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference freshman and sophomore meet at the Robert W. Smith Track in Cedarville Tuesday, May 6. The Trojans totaled 93 points to take first place in the boys division. They were followed by Pickford with 67, Engadine 66, Brimley 40, and DeTour 28.

      The Pickford Panthers girls and boys captured the championships of the Pickford Junior High Track and Field Invitational Saturday, May 10. In the girls division, Pickford edged out St. Ignace 104.5 to 101, followed by Brimley with 79, Engadine 75, Rudyard 65, Cedarville 55, Newberry 19, and DeTour 6.5.

      A Cedarville-Mackinac Island Archery Tournament was held Thursday, April 24, at Mackinac Island Public School. Students from both schools' physical education classes participated. Mackinac Island won both divisions, with Megan Hill of Cedarville taking top honors for the girls and Fuller Cowell of Mackinac Island taking top honors for the boys.

      St. Ignace junior Tyler Mapes carded an 18-hole score of 78 for low medalist at the Cheboygan Invitational, while his Saints team finished eighth out of 11 teams with an overall score of 374 Tuesday, May 6. Jeff Gamble recorded 83 for 10th place, while Justen Frazier scored a 98, and Erik Grondin shot 115.

      State Representative Gary McDowell has changed his office hours from Monday, May 12, to Monday, May 19. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Chippewa County Courthouse Annex Meeting Room in Sault Ste. Marie; from noon to 1 p.m. at the Mackinac County Annex in St. Ignace, and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Petoskey City Hall Room in Petoskey.
