This past Wednesday, the last day of school, as kids came flying out of classes ready for summer vacation to begin, all of us parents were already wondering when school is due to start back up.

Middle school baseball teams with Consolidated Community School Service began practices last week. This year, boys in sixth through eighth grade will be coached by Chris Kruger. Coach Kruger said that 13 fine young men have come out for this year's senior youth baseball team. They will be playing against two St. Ignace teams, Cedarville, Brimley, Detour/Drummond, and Pickford. The season opener was Monday, June 9. Look for them on the diamonds in the Rudyard park area, and cheer them on to a victory.

The Rudyard Junior Bulldogs had football camps Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Boys and girls from fourth through eighth grade came to camp to learn basics for the coming football season. Shannon Dotson, Dee Hooten, and president Joe Nault of the Junior Bulldogs League, helped serve the children lunches for the two-day event. Each received a free shirt, lunch, and on the last day, each was allowed to go swimming. Camp was held by Carlos Molina, Jeff Green, Jimmy Suggit, and Ryan Fountain.

Issac Suggit said, "Camp is fun because it's a little bit easier then in real practice. The coaches don't push you as hard, but they will when practice comes in a couple months, though."

Christjon Paquin said, "It's just fun and you get to play football."

The Rudyard Junior Bulldogs had an annual golf outing Friday, June 6. Fourteen teams showed up to see who was the best and to receive the prizes donated by many sponsors. The team of Rudyard's own Jimmy Smith, of Smith Sanitation, was a winner, along with Mike Newton of Pickford and his team. Mr. Newton also won the 50/50 raffle and an overnight stay at Bay Mills.
