The rain is welcomed for all who have planted their gardens, and area lawns have never been greener. In spite of the inclement weather, plans for outdoor activities are still on the agenda.
Thursday, June 12, the Fine Arts Council is sponsoring a German scissor cutting class instructed by Annagret Goehring.
Auditions for the play "Kitchen Witches" will be at the Village Hall Saturday, June14, at 3 p.m. For more information, contact Dawn Hamelink, (906) 297-5808.
The DeTour Community Choir will perform their "Kick Off The Summer" concert Sunday, June 22, at Sacred Heart in DeTour at 3 p.m., and at Drummond Island Lutheran Church Tuesday, June 24, at 7:15 p.m.
The DeTour Village Fine Arts Festival will be Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Ontario Street. The day will be filled with music, art, and food. Contact Nancy Mordecai, (906) 297-8082 if you have questions.
Members of the DeTour Botanical Gardens Club have been busy "digging in" at their work bees. Work bees are scheduled for every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. and every Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The publisher and the editor of Grand Gardens magazine referred to the DeTour gardens as a "diamond in the U.P. rough." They were so impressed with our gardens, their pictures and article were featured in the April issue of the magazine. David Cramer and Juliette Cowell provided the write-up. The following people have volunteered to be the new board representatives: Chair, Kris Kelley; treasurer/membership, Linda Fisher; secretary, Dianne Karsh; public relations chairman, Judy Jones; fundraising, Debbie Fountain; events chair, Julie Rucker; historian, Mary Jo Daggitt. The members meet the first Thursday of every month (May through October) at 1 p.m. at the Village Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Annual Home and Garden Tour will be Saturday, July 19. Bob and Sandy Wytiaz will once again will be providing and serving the luncheon in their lovely yard.
. A wonderful Father's Day gift would be a ticket on the 11th Annual Father's Day Cruise on the St. Marys River sponsored by the DeTour Reef Light Preservation Society Sunday, June 15. The cruise includes a trip to the DeTour Reef Light, then upriver and through the Soo Locks. A brunch, buffet luncheon, and afternoon snack are included.
Our friends at Caribou Lake have been busy with outdoor projects and greeting their new neighbors. A mention in last week's column regarding Sandy Wytiaz's role in "On Golden Pond" was inadvertently omitted. Sandy, not a newcomer to the stage, perfectly portrayed the character Ethel Thayer, and has been involved
