2008-06-12 / News

The U.S. Forest Service in St. Ignace is seeking volunteers to help protect a federally endangered bird species, piping plovers, which migrate exclusively to the Great Lakes shoreline to reproduce. With a total breeding population of only 60 pairs, help is needed to monitor the birds and inform beach-goers about the conservation of piping plovers. For more information, contact Steve Sjogren at 643-7900, extension 134, or ssjogren@fs.fed.us, or Amber Heramb at amberheramb@ charter.net.
