'Lighthouse' Movie Will Not Be Filmed on St. Helena Island

St. Helena Island on the Straits of Mackinac will not be the site of a movie called "Lighthouse," as anticipated by Los Angeles-based film company Duly Noted.

The site is very attractive but could not accommodate equipment needed to make the film, Effie Brown, owner and producer of Duly Noted, told The St. Ignace News.

Dick Moehl of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association worked with Ms. Brown to bring the film company to the area. Each actor requested large trailers, he said, that would not fit on the twoacre parcel that is under the auspices of the Association. The rest of the island is owned and managed by the Little Traverse Conservancy.

The company sought to turn the lighthouse beacon off during parts of the proposed film's production. The Coast Guard was not amenable to the idea, Mr. Moehl added.
