Rudyard Bulldogs Softball Team Falls to Superior Central in District Finals

The Rudyard Bulldogs girls softball team fell to the Superior Central Cougars 5-3 during the District 4 championship game in St. Ignace Monday, June 2.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead after the second inning before the Cougars tied the game in the fourth and added three runs in the top of the fifth for a 5-2 lead.
Rudyard closed the gap to 5-3 in the bottom of sixth, but couldn't get any closer.

During Semifinal Wins
Rudyard defeated St. Ignace 15-1 in the first semifinal game Monday, June 2, and Superior Central shut out Pickford- Cedarville 15-0 in the second game, setting both teams up for the title game.
St. Ignace downed Brimley 8- 4 in the second quarterfinal to earn its match with Rudyard. No game statistics were available.
At right, Chelsea Mesnard pitched the Rudyard Bulldogs to a 15-1 win over the St. Ignace Saints in a district semifinal game. The senior was selected to the All-Straits Area Conference and All-District softball teams. Bulldogs statistics vs. St. Ignace: Chelsea Mesnard, three hits, one home run, allowed two hits, struck out eight; Brittany Gibson, two hits, one home run; Emily Jeffrey, two hits; Destiny Chontos, one hit, one home run; Crystal Brownlee, Lindsey La- Pointe, one hit.

Rapid River 3-0
Senior Chelsea Mesnard pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12, and walking three batters during the Bulldogs' 3-0 win over Rapid River during the Division 4 district quarterfinals Tuesday, May 27.
Emily Jeffreys recorded two hits, while Destiny Chontos and Erin Watson collected one hit each for the Bulldogs.
Seniors playing in their final game for St. Ignace are Ashly Peterson, Alyssa Pechta, Sam Wright, and for Rudyard, Destiny Chontos, Brittany Mesnard, Jessica Loonsfoot, Katelyn Meehan, and Chelsea Mesnard.
The Saints' Marcie Rickley earned All-Straits Area Conference second team honors. |
