Petoskey Duo Wins 30th St. Ignace Spring Scramble

The Petoskey duo of Jerry Bush and Bill Frazier carded a 36-hole score of 135 (69-66), nine under par, to capture the 30th annual St. Ignace Spring Scramble Golf Tournament title Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1.

Kevin Matson and Billy Matson finished second in the first flight after recording 135 (67-68), followed by Doug Ingalls and Charlie Brown 136 (67-69), Jo Jo Visnaw and Chris Matson 136 (66-70), and Ed Lester Jr. and Mort Becker 138 (69-69).

Bob Brandstrom and Jim Nelson won the second flight with a 36- hole score of 142 (71-71), followed by Andy Brown and Jim Brown 142 (71-71), Vance Barber and Ken Wilkie 142 (70-72), Steve Stokes and Lou Grondin 144 (72-72), and Dick Carr and Chuck Hessel 144 (71-73).

Lloyd Matson and Victor Matson won the third flight with a 36- hole score of 148 (75-73), followed by Kurt Yacurone and Ron Thompson 149 (75-74), Ralph Colegrove and Pat Dwyer 153 (77- 76), Mark MacDonald and Andy MacDonald 154 (77-77), and Joe Krause and John Bentgen 156 (75- 81).

Allie Baker and John Baker took first place in the fourth flight with a 18-hole score of 73, followed by Gil Luna and Chris Menominee with 80, Dan Spencer and Richie Smith 81, Gene Massey and Chuck Kingsbury Sr. 81, and Al Thompson and Larry Thompson 83.

During the special events, Dennis Sweeney was closest to the pin on hole 7, Ed Lester Jr. closest to the pin on hole 9, Lee Hovey, longest putt on hole 4, and Chris Matson had longest drive on the opening fairway.
