Community Garden Is Established at Moran
A new community garden on township-owned land between True Value Hardware and the U.S. Post Office in Moran was approved by the Brevort Township Board of Trustees Tuesday, June 3.
The project was proposed by resident Lee Kanitz, who has been seeking a way to improve Moran by finding a use for the empty lot on M-123. Mr. Kanitz chose not to proceed with a previously approved plan to develop a fruit market on the parcel.
He has promised to till the soil, keep the area clean, and invites area residents to garden on the spot, free of charge. The spot is tilled, and is ready to plant. Residents can bring their own plants, and Mr. Kanitz has seeds to offer and will donate water and fertilizer.
"We're open. People can do to it whatever they want. People can plant a row in memory of someone. We just want to get people together," Mr. Kanitz said.
Plot sizes will be determined by the level of interest, he said.
