Mackinac Island
      Summer is the season of adventure, when the days grow longer, and the sun, the moon, and nature's beauty can be seen in colors of a rainbow. Riding around the shore of our Island, one can find yellow daisies, buttercups, and black-eyed Susans. Owing to the amount of rain we've received recently, the lawns and trees carry a vivid velvet green color.

      Seven-month-old Levi Robert Van Luven was baptized Sunday, June 29, at the Methodist Church in Pickford. His parents are Kaye Marie and Kenneth Van Luven of Pickford. Pastor Paul Gruenberg officiated. Levi's grandparents, Sharon Shaw and Dan Fick, were present, as well as Levi's greatgrandparents, Melvin and Cathy Thorne and Bobby Joe and Audrey Hutchison.

St.Ignace
      Our wonderful summer car shows are over for the year. Lots of effort goes into hosting and planning these shows, and the hard work produces a great turnout of visitors to our town. Hundreds of beautiful cars were displayed at St. Ignace June 21 for Antiques on the Bay and June 26 through June 28 for the St.

      Just like that we've reached the Fourth of July. It seems like only yesterday we were shoveling snow and complaining about the cold weather. The weekend, according to the weatherman, promises to be full of sunshine and blue skies, along with summer-like temperatures.

DeTour
      Rain may have dampened the DeTour Fine Arts Festival from taking place on Ontario Street, but the spirits of those who participated were definitely not dampened in any way. The exhibits were set up at the school, in the Performing Arts Center. The enthusiasm among the artists and the visitors remained high.

      There was a good breeze blowing early this Monday morning, June 30, enough to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Ed Heenan of Austin, Texas, is home for a couple of weeks, as are Charlie, Pam, and Chrissy Movalson, and Eric, Kelli, Miss Amanda, and Zach Movalson of Howell. Fishing is the order of the day. (Hope it gets better than Sunday's foray on Big Brevort Lake.

      Hello, everyone. Can you believe it's July already? This is "camping month" for many folks. Hopefully, the weather will become a little warmer, especially in the evenings. It's Mexican Day Thursday, July 3, at the Luce County Community Resource and Recreation Center in Newberry. It's a great place for kids.
