Downtown St.Ignace Banner Placement Draws Questions
The placement of American flags and city banners along State Street is drawing questions from residents, said Deb Evashevski, director of the St. Ignace Downtown Development Authority. On the west side of the street, they face inward toward buildings. On the east side, the flags and banners face the road. They are attached to city light poles and the location of the light poles has affected their placement. Poles on the west side of the street are placed near the curb, she said, making it necessary for the banners and flags to hang inward to avoid potential damage from tall vehicles like motor homes and trucks. Poles on the east side of the street stand away from the curb, allowing the banners and flags to hang over the sidewalk instead of near the street.
