A wind energy workshop will be offered in St. Ignace, Tuesday, August 19, at Little Bear East Arena and Conference Center.

The Wind Energy Siting and Policy Issues workshop will be offered by Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) as part of its Citizen Planner series. Attendance will earn Citizen Planner and Master Citizen Planner certificate holders continuing education credits.

The general public and other municipal leaders may attend. Workshop topics include the current status of wind power and what it means to people, zoning issues that apply to wind power systems, the potential impact of wind power facilities, and sample zoning policies regarding wind generation. Wind power resources will also be available for participants.

The workshop fee is $55 per person, and $45 for Master Citizen Planners or groups of four or more from the same organization or municipality.

Register for the event by Tuesday, August 12, by calling Michelle Walk, Mackinac County MSUE director, at 643-7307.

Clark Township will send representatives to the workshop. The board of trustees briefly discussed the workshop at its June 19 meeting, and expects planning commissioners to attend, as well.

Mackinac County Commis - sioner Mike Patrick, who was at the meeting, encouraged elected officials and the public to attend the workshop and consider the idea of wind power.

"It's an alternative. It's clean, and it's free," Mr. Patrick said.

At least two of the trustees plan to attend.
