Clark Twp. Hazardous Waste Collection Is July 26
The second annual household hazardous waste collection day is set for Saturday, July 26, and is open to residents of the Les Cheneaux Islands watershed, which includes Cedarville and Hessel. The collection will take place in the parking lot of the Clark Township Building on Blindline Road beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. With limited funding available, the collection could end earlier than 3 p.m., and participants are asked to make a donation.
Items that can be disposed include automotive liquids, cleaners, batteries, pesticides, and oil based paints. Ammunitions, explosives, and compressed gas cylinders can be taken with advance arrangements.
Latex paint will not be collected as it can be safely disposed in the landfill after it has been dried, organizers reported.
The collection day is sponsored by the Les Cheneaux Watershed Council and Chippewa/East Mackinac Conservation District with a grant from the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation.
The partnership also will hold a home pollution prevention workshop Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. at the Clark Township Office, which will offer residents information about managing household hazardous waste.
