Keeping Term-limited Seats in the Family
      Family ties abound in the August 5 primaries for the State House of Representatives, a house decimated because 44 of its 110 members are term-limited. In Macomb County, the son of Representative Jack Brandenburg (RHarrison) is the sole Republican to compete against eight Democrats.

Engadine Consolidated Schools
      Engadine Consolidated Schools recently received its No Child Left Behind report card, scoring a B for both the junior and senior high schools. In receiving this grade, the school has met Annual Yearly Progress. Had we not met this criteria, we would have begun the first step in a state-mandated school improvement process.

Les Cheneaux
      We have had some very nice weather in the Les Cheneaux area during the past week. The vegetable garden that we planted, a week later than we should have, is looking quite good and we hope to, at the very least, get a few fresh beans before the summer is over.

      The Hamburger Bash last week in the lower level of the Pickford Township Hall was a great success. Pictured is a group of the Linger Longers, who enjoyed the food and stayed longer to enjoy good company and listen to the Pickin' and Grinnin' Band.

      Hello, everyone. It's hard to believe the month of July is almost to an end already. There will be an all-you-caneat fish fry Friday, July 25, from 4:30 p.m to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Eagles Club on M-28 in Newberry. The American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will have a fish fry Friday, July 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Engadine.

      The weekend was lovely. Trinity Lutheran Church had a capacity crowd owing to summer visitors and folks coming home. Sharon and Ken Smith arrived home from Argentina last week. Welcome back. Ed and Karen Anderson are in residence at their condominium.

DeTour
      What a joy, to have a calendar filled with dates of activities we won't want to miss in DeTour. The DeTour Homemakers will hold their annual bingo Wednesday, July 23, at the Village Hall. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All proceeds will benefit the DeTour Ambulance Corps for new equipment.
