In my travels, I'm learning more about Michigan, day by day. What a beautiful place to enjoy all seasons.

While visiting the town of Munising, I enjoyed a boat ride. Esley Mattson, narrator of the Glass Bottom Boat trip, recalls he met Wesley Maurer of St. Ignace, this newspaper's publisher, a few years ago on Mackinac Island at Grand Hotel at a Michigan Press Association meeting. At that time, Mr. Mattson worked for the Munising Press.

St. Ignace residents are expecting nice weather for the all-class reunion Friday, July 25. Folks will meet at LaSalle High School, and then venture to Little Bear East Arena for a social gathering. It is a class reunion for anyone who attended LaSalle, Ursuline Academy, or any community member. A large crowd is expected to attend.

There will be a Fish Feast and Mackinac Bridge celebration Saturday, July 26, at the city marina, with fireworks at dusk. Live music, children's games, displays of the commercial fishing industry, and restaurants' favorite fish dishes will be offered.

As I read the May/June issue of Michigan History magazine, I noticed an article written by Clark Bloswick of Mackinac Island. This was an answer to "Interlude on Mackinac Island," and states how happy he is living on the Island.

The students may be out class for the summer, but the hallways are not empty at St. Ignace Middle School. Furniture has been placed there while classrooms are cleaned and readied for the new school year this fall. Joe Massey, school custodian, navigates his way between desks and chairs as he prepares to clean a floor Friday, July 18. They both grew up in St. Ignace, and moved to Munising in 1960. Mr. Corp has been a barber since 1954. Happy with his job, he walks to work and back daily, regardless of the weather. Some days he wears cleated boots, to prevent falls. He also enjoys music, as he plays piano, banjo, and guitar. Don mentioned that he wants to take Fridays off from the barber shop to fish this summer, but has not had the time yet. Married for 53 years, the Corps have nine children. The couple sure know how to welcome their friends and family. Coffee was inviting, but a luncheon with Don's homemade wheat bread was great. They also enjoy their garden, and Don loves to can the produce.

Enjoying the Upper Peninsula, I have had a great time in many places, including Grand Island. For the last 10 years, a pontoon boat has been available to float folks over in four minutes from Munising. Either Jim Linquist or Kevin Morrison, owners of the ferry service, will be your captain, if you visit. Jim Barrow is the manager, and if you decide to tour the island by bus, your driver is Eric Frosh. Mr. Frosh taught science in the Munising school district. The tour was very interesting, stopping at historical sights, including the oldest cemetery in Alger County.

Word has been received from Sgt. Larry McQuisten in Iraq that he is okay. He misses his wife, Tracy, and two children, Michael and Andrea, and wishes to say hello to his friends at home.

Let's keep all of these servicemen and servicewomen in our prayers.

Enjoy these summer days. Don't forget to watch the sunset.
