What a joy, to have a calendar filled with dates of activities we won't want to miss in DeTour.

The DeTour Homemakers will hold their annual bingo Wednesday, July 23, at the Village Hall. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All proceeds will benefit the DeTour Ambulance Corps for new equipment.

A silent auction, sponsored by the E.U.P. Fine Arts Council, will be Saturday, July 26, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fine Arts Cultural Center, behind Sacred Heart Church. A dance is scheduled to take place after the auction, with DJ Kevin Barrett providing the music. Also included will be complementary food and a cash bar. All proceeds will be designated toward the restoration of the building, once known as the Catholic Hall.

Fishermen may register to be in the 22nd annual DeTour Salmonfest Saturday, August 9, to Saturday, August 16. Details are available from North Country Sports at (906) 297-6461.

Richard LeLievre, a retired Master Chief Bosnmate of the United States Coast Guard, donated a uniform worn by the Officer in Charge of the DeTour Reef Light to the DeTour Passage Historical Museum.

Mr. LeLievre was stationed on DeTour Reef for a short time in 1966, and later was Officer in Charge of Spectacle Reef Light, north of Cheboygan. The uniform is in excellent condition, and members of the museum appreciate receiving this gift.

The DeTour Village Council met Monday, June 16. Following are excerpts from that meeting.

Proposed amendments to the DeTour Village Zoning Ordinance were presented to the Council for approval after the public hearing was held, with no objections. It was approved that Section 3.0, to add BP-1, Business Park District to the zoning districts (after industrial). It was approved to change the designation of the park from Industrial to BP-1. Section 4.6 changed to 4.7 - Schedule of Regulations has already been incorporated into the zoning ordinance, as the state zoning regulations were accepted.

Mullett Lake Lawn and Tree Service has started installing the new irrigation system in the Botanical Gardens.

An application was received requesting a "Change of Zoning" at 480 South Superior Street, from Village Residential to Village Core/Central Business District. A public hearing was scheduled for Monday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. to hear comments on this proposal.

Payment of $225 for the new billboard being constructed on I- 75 promoting DeTour Village was approved, pending receipt of an invoice.

The above excerpts are as recorded by Village Clerk Linda Fisher. For a complete set of the minutes, stop by the Village Office.

A thought: Days are like suitcases, the same size, but some people are able to pack more into them than others.
