Kay Honnila

Kay Honnila, 67, formerly of Cedarville, was an active volunteer for many projects and enjoyed a career in the telecommunications industry. She passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, after an illness of cancer.

She was born in 1941 in Detroit to Delia (nee Rosing) and George Honnila.

Ms. Honnila was a 1959 graduate of Cedarville High School, and attended universities in Leghorn, Italy, San Marcos, Texas, Gaithersburg, Maryland, Marquette, and is a 1992 graduate of Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis. She lived in eight states, and Europe. An avid traveler, her unrealized goal was to see Oregon and Hawaii, the only two states not visited.

Ms. Honilla worked in telecommunications for 30 years, working with satellite, long distance, local, and cellular services for start-up and big box companies. She worked in customer service, as a department manager, and as a project manager.

She was involved in Little Sisters of America, was a group facilitator for Chrysalis Women's center, a mentor and board member at Wayside House, and headed clothing drives for women's shelters. She was a member of the Red Hat Cuties of Burnsville, Minnesota, and the Countryside Reader's Guild.

She enjoyed being with family and friends, and she enjoyed Upper Midwest Native American studies.

She is survived by a brother, Donald Honnila of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Cedarville; two sisters in-law; one honorary grandson; five nephews, and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Wayne Honnila.
