After a tour of the Upper Peninsula, including Copper Harbor, I'm back in my hometown of St. Ignace. There is lots of history and beauty in our state. The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor was the scene of the Thimbleberry Festival. I decided to spend an extra day at Fort Wilkins State Park. More ... One of the highlights taking place for the whole month of August is the Art Council's Exhibit at Cedarville Inn. Beginning August 1 and continuing for the month, the exhibit is a fine example of some of the artistic endeavors of not only local residents, but of many of our visitors who take the classes offered by the Les Cheneaux Arts Council. More ... The busy days of summer are filled to capacity. The 20/20 youth group from the Rexton Mennonite Church have returned from the mission trip to Chicago. The Les Cheneaux Education Foundation presented "Hello, Dolly" the weekend of July 26, in the old auditorium of the Cedarville high school. There were a few actors from Pickford in it, and they did a swell job. More ... I ran into a lot of people this week who said that the blueberries behind the Chippewa International Airport were ready for the picking, and picking they did. Sara Russell, along with her mother and sister, Laini, were just a few of the people who said they were delicious. (Just a warning: wear bug spray, as the bugs are biting like crazy. More ... I can believe there is a carpet of blue from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior; we are blessed with a good crop of blueberries this year. Anne Andersen of Bemidji, Minnesota, has been at the Hagen family home this past week with her son and daughterin law, Billy and Julie Andersen, and their children, Brady, Jule, and Lucas. More ... I would like to send condolences to the family of Steve Schroeder, who was graduated from Engadine High School in 1978.
