Brevort

I can believe there is a carpet of blue from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior; we are blessed with a good crop of blueberries this year. Anne Andersen of Bemidji, Minnesota, has been at the Hagen family home this past week with her son and daughterin law, Billy and Julie Andersen, and their children, Brady, Jule, and Lucas. Roger and Lynne VanDok of Arvada, Colorado, are also here for a week, and blueberry picking is the order of the day. Jule does not enjoy picking, so he entertains playing his guitar. If he's playing near your patch, you're expected to drop blueberries in his guitar case.

A Brevort happening took place Sunday, August 3, as 83 friends, neighbors, and relatives gathered at the home of John and Pega Kennedy to celebrate John's retirement from the pastie shop this year. Pega is partially retired, as she still works in the mornings with Brenda Spencer at the Wildwood Pastie Shop.

Pat and Jeff Cranson and Denny and June White are at their homes this week on Wildwood Lane.

John and Carol Faye Watson are spending the month at their cottage on Fisherman's Drive in the village. Their daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Kirk, and their children, Gunnar and Chloe, will spend a week in their camper trailer on the same premises.

Ian and Amy Mitchell, who now live in Boyne City, are able to spend weekends at their home on Wildwood Lane. Ian is an acquaintance of Eric and Tracy Movalson from their teen years.

Mike and Melanie Jorgensen and family stopped by Owen and Barbara Jorgensen's home on their way to Scandinavia, Wisconsin, to visit Melanie's parents.

Jackie and Jim Rogers now have a variety of lettuce, radishes, and green peppers. Pole beans are coming on, as are the cucumbers.

Joe Chalmers started to tell me of the latest Detroit Tigers fiasco, and I understand it was not pretty. Sharon Chalmers is in a state of angst about it. Horst Daemmrich says that word is a German term for anxiety. Yes, we are anxious.

Kirk and Laura Leibengood and family are back at the Coffey cottage on the beach.

Ann and Jim Dyer attended the C&O Railroad reunion at Mud Lake this past week. Forty retired railroaders attended and enjoyed a bluegill fish fry. Their host had caught more than 400 of the delectable morsels. Jim and Ann stayed with Ann Wright of Grand Rapids.

Gordon and Pat Knight are loving beach time and swimming, as they're spending the summer days at their home on Wildwood Lane. They've just returned from a trip to Colorado, visiting their 10th grandchild. On their way home, they hit 101 degrees in Nebraska. They were glad to get back to Michigan.

We wish continuing good health to Jim Rose and Sandy Feleppa.

Sharon and Ken Smith had the Brevort Motel open for a short time, but it's now closed.

Dave, Tracy, and I had a late Sunday supper with Joe Stewart and Lorie Quigley at their home on the shore of Lake Michigan.

Happy birthday to Ethan Shepard, who will be two years old August 8, Carson Yoder August 11, Mark Spencer, the younger, August 12, Dot Glashaw August 14, Larry Lasley August 15, and Shari Baron August 17.

Enjoy the berry picking, and check for ticks.
