I would like to send condolences to the family of Steve Schroeder, who was graduated from Engadine High School in 1978. Steve passed away Saturday, August 2, just a few days short of his 48th birthday, August 11. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers his wife, Susan, and children, Billy, Zachary, Jacob, and Nicole; his mother, Violet Schroeder of Engadine; his brother and family, John and Rhonda Greenwald; sisters and families, Gail and Pete Miller, Gloria and David McGuire, and Sally and Dan Brehm, along with family and many friends. Steve was a wonderful person, who brought a smile to everyone's face. We are blessed to have known him, along with growing up with him in our younger years. He will be greatly missed.

The Engadine Area Farmers' Market began Saturday, August 2, at the Mill Pond Park pavilion, just behind the Garfield Township Hall in Engadine. Project Fresh coupons will be accepted for fresh produce. Sales begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon each Saturday through October.

The Hiawatha Sportsmen's Club will host a four-person night golf scramble, Friday August 8. Registration begins at 9 p.m., and tee-off will be at 10 p.m. For more information, call (906) 477-6683.

The Tri-Lakes Triathlon Committee is looking for volunteers for the triathlon Saturday, August 9, beginning at the Curtis Park. People are needed at the tent watering stations along the roadway, and for clean-up and other duties throughout the day. Call the Curtis Chamber of Commerce office if you're able to help or for more information.

The Luce-Mackinac Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, August 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Tahquamenon Area Library.

American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will have a fish fry Friday, August 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Engadine. Cost is $8 for persons age 10 and older, $5 for children age 6 to 9, and free for children age 5 and younger. There also will be a 50/50 raffle.

Mark your calenders for Saturday, August 9, and head to the Gould City park for a community picnic from noon to 4 p.m. The park looks great with all of the new playground equipment. The park is at the old school grounds, approximately one-half mile south of the railroad tracks in Gould City.

Engadine Junior Eagle football practice begins Thursday, August 7, at 5:30 p.m. Completed registrations, 2008 physical, birth certificate,

and the $30 participation fee is required to participate. For more information, call Zeak or Debbie at (906) 477-7377.

Everyone is invited to a salad luncheon Sunday, August 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Engadine VFW Hall in Engadine. The luncheon is sponsored by the Boucha- Draves-Raski Auxiliary 8372.

Friends of the Curtis Library will have a book sale Wednesday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Curtis Library in Curtis. There will be 5,000 used books, plus puzzles and movies available for children and adults.

The Curtis Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the third annual sidewalk sale and flea market Wednesday, August 6, in Curtis. Rain day will be Thursday, August 7.

The Curtis Area Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will have a 10-gun raffle. Tickets are $20 each. Winners will be drawn at the banquet Saturday, August 9, at the Garfield Township Hall in Engadine.
