Thomas Shawver
      Associated Press (AP) correspondent Thomas Lyle Shawver, 81, of Lansing, died Friday, July 25, 2008. Mr. Shawver was one of more than 300 reporters who covered the 1957 opening of the Mackinac Bridge. He also was part of the Pulitzer Prize winning team of journalists that covered the Detroit riots in 1967.

      John Gerard Fenlon, 52, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born August 7, 1955, in St. Ignace to John R. and Rena May (nee Cleary) Fenlon. Mr. Fenlon was graduated from LaSalle High School and completed two years of college.

      Thomas James Jarvie, 25, of Rudyard, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. He was born September 28, 1982, in Sault Ste. Marie.       Former St. Ignace resident Robert Lackey, 94, of Monticello, Florida, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Lackey was born in Bruce Township, Ontario. He was proceed in death by his wife, Louise, who died February 17, 2007.

Gordon Reid
      Gordon Bennett Reid, 94, of Dafter died Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Tendercare in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born July 24, 1914, in Dafter to Arthur Gordon and Fern nee Kelly) Reid. Mr. Reid lived most of his life in Dafter, where he was a farmer. He owned and operated Lake Superior Beef Company. Mr. Reid supported the local 4-H program and was a 4-H livestock buyer.

Patricia Haskell
      Patricia Ann Haskell, 83, of Kincheloe died, Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. She was born December 23, 1924, in Ann Arbor to Adolph Ellory and Ruth (nee Allmendinger) Schmidt. Mrs. Haskell grew up in Ann Arbor, reared her children there, and worked for 21 years as an editor for University Microfilm International.

      Evelyn Prokop, 97, a longtime resident of St. Ignace, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Anchorage, Alaska, where she had lived for the past 12 years. Mrs. Prokop was born in 1911 to Herman and Ellen Pischner of Beaver Island.

Clementine Gosciniak
      Local restaurant owner Clementine Gosciniak, 88, of Evergreen Shores, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care. Mrs. Gosciniak and her husband, Richard, owned the Shores Restaurant and Lounge in Evergreen Shores since 1954 and the Embers Restaurant in Mackinaw City for 14 years.

      A memorial service is planned for Robert Louis Flora of Wildwood Shores, near Brevort, Saturday, August 16, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort. A picnic lunch and celebration of his life are planned.

Frank Blake
      Frank Edward Blake, 88, of St. Ignace, was a pilot who took bread, mail, and hospital patients to and from Mackinac Island after World War II. He worked to develop the airport at St. Ignace. Mr. Blake, formerly of Carpentersville, Illinois, passed away December 31, 2007.
