Rudyard
I ran into a lot of people this week who said that the blueberries behind the Chippewa International Airport were ready for the picking, and picking they did. Sara Russell, along with her mother and sister, Laini, were just a few of the people who said they were delicious. (Just a warning: wear bug spray, as the bugs are biting like crazy.)
Carolyn Eckert is having a wonderful visit from her mother, Eva Hakola. Ms. Hakola flew in from Arizona. She will stay for two months.
Prudy Allen, Darlene Goudreau, Alice Spring, and Cindy Steikar were among those on a committee who planned the reunion of the Class of 1963, a two-day event filled with food and enjoyment.
Bulldogs football camp was Saturday, July 26, through Tuesday, July 29. Both varsity and junior varsity players got out onto the field for camp to learn defensive plays. About 35 young men turned out for camp. When I asked Bradon Radle what he liked about camp best he said, "The lunches - we got to eat hot and ready pizzas."
A wonderful project that is going on in our area is called the Gracie Heart Fund. It is happening during the Labor Day weekend, starting in Sault Ste. Marie and walking all the way to Cheboygan. There are currently 100 walkers signed up for the event. It is a group walking to raise funds for heart research.
Jamus Vansloten (from left), Nick Rye, and Braden Vansloten, all of Rudyard, take a short break from Pickford Hay Days to enjoy the swing set Saturday, August 2. Last week at Pickford Hay Days, the team of Drew Cozort, Elden Salo, Caleb Salo, and Brandon Radle didn't manage to keep ahead of the Cedarville and St. Ignace three-on-three basketball teams, who were a little bit taller and a little bit faster. But the foursome did very well in showing off their Rudyard enthusiasm.
