Accident Claims Life of Rudyard Man
A two-vehicle traffic crash took the life of a Rudyard man Tuesday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-48 and Centerline in Rudyard.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle driven by Thomas Jarvie of Rudyard, traveling southbound on Centerline Road, failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a westbound semi-truck on M-48 near Rudyard.
Three people, including the drivers of both vehicles and one passenger, were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
Later transported to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey, Mr. Jarvie passed away there Wednesday, July 30. He is survived by his parents, grandparents, and siblings. An obituary for Mr. Jarvie is published in this issue of The St. Ignace News.
An injured passenger, Jody Piippo of Rudyard, was treated for his injuries at War Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital.
The driver of the semi-truck, Kenneth Betters of Powers, was treated for minor injuries and later released.
All three people are believed to have been wearing seat belts.
Michigan State Police troopers were assisted at the scene by Rudyard Fire Department, Kinross EMS, Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, and the Chippewa County Road Commission.
