Missy and Pat Milligan, along with their children, Andrew and Ali, traveled from Grand Rapids while Kay McKenzie, their mother and grandmother, had surgery. Ms. McKenzie is in stable condition at this time as a patient at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
Veronica and Russell Rickley also spent lots of quality time with their grandchildren, Andrew and Ali.
Kim Welch, her son, Aaron, and her mother, Marion Fenlon, spent an afternoon at the American Legion Park in St. Ignace. They also enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant. Marion is feeling much better, she said, and is full of energy.
Gertrude Dunn reports that residents at Charters Cove are receiving a new roof by a local contractor.
Stanley and Bernice Bickham attended the wedding of Craig and Erin Marshall in Grand Rapids, and then went to Saginaw to visit Bernice's sister and her family, Marie and Jack Backar.
Tristen Bester, 4, celebrated his birthday August 16 with a party at American Legion Park, reported his grandmother, Shirley Cataline. Many people also call this waterfront park the "red, white, and blue park."
Eileen Evers, an employee at the Chamber of Commerce office, reports that the Salmon Derby scheduled for Saturday, August 23, has been cancelled.
Paula McCrory reports her brother, Melvin Paquin, was a visitor in St. Ignace one day last week.
Many folks are enjoying wine tasting at the Pavillion on Main Street, which takes place each Tuesday evening. The event is sponsored by local businesses.
Pat Smith traveled to Crivitz, Wisconsin, to be with her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Richard Stascak. They will do a little camping,
and celebrated Kay's birthday August 16.
Peggy Jarman said she and seven other members of the Tuesday weigh-in held their annual picnic Tuesday, August 12, at the United Methodist Church.
Diane and Bob Colegrove said business has been good this summer at their Country Store on US- 2, seven miles west of town.
Mauricio and Ester Gallardo of Lees Summit, Missouri, have purchased the Econo Lodge in St. Ignace. Mr. Gallardo, after making some improvements to the motel, will convert it to a Rodeway Inn, which is part of the same family as Econo Lodge, reported Vince Chiaravalli, a broker from Traverse City, August 5. For many years, the Della-Moretta family owned and operated the hotel, once known as the Quality Inn Straits Breeze.
