The lazy, hazy days of summer are just that. Visitors, vacationers, and residents are thoroughly enjoying the weather in August. What a great time to be here in the beautiful Eastern Upper Peninsula.

The weather was great during the Salmon Derby, which ended Saturday, August 16. The proud winner of the first prize of $1,500 was Jerry Warner. He also won $50 for the largest catch of the day. Jerry's big catch weighed more than 22 pounds. The derby ended at the pavilion with a fish dinner, prepared by the Boy Scouts. All other prizes were awarded at that time.

Aside from the derby action, Diane Corcoran, a summer resident of Caribou Lake, called to report her catch of a walleye weighing 29.5 pounds, from Caribou Lake. Diane only "caught" on to the sport of fishing a couple of summers ago. Congratulations, Diane, keep those rods and reels busy.

The final performance of "Kitchen Witches" was Sunday, August 17. All performances went well, with a full house each time. Members of the cast were outstanding in their roles. This comedy left the audience smiling. It's always a great feeling to have a good laugh now and again. Special recognition to Dawn Hamelink, who made her debut as director. Olive Warner, first-time producer, was right on with all of her duties. The production crew for put forth their finest effort. Many others participated with willingness to help.
