Chippewa County Fair Begins Sun.
The Chippewa County fair in Kinross begins Sunday, August 24, and continues through Monday, September 1.
Advance admission for various events, including demolition derbies and other grandstand activities, costs $10 for adults, and $5 for children. At the gate, the cost is $12 for adults and $8 for children ages four to 12. Admission is free for children younger than three.
This year, magic shows starring Jeff Eaton will be put on by Kandu and Company. They will take place from August 27 through September 1; show times are to be determined.
The kiddie train returns to the fair this year. It will be Wednesday through Sunday.
There will be demonstrations of antique equipment all day Friday through Monday. Pony rides will take place on all days of the fair, also.
There will be bingo in the Dunbar building Wednesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Entertainment will be at the pavilion Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
A schedule of fair highlights follows:
Sunday
The fair begins Sunday when, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., poultry can be entered. Rabbits can be entered from 10 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday
Monday, all livestock will be entered from10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Rabbit judging begins at 9 a.m. There are open exhibits from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At 2 p.m., there is pocket pet judging. Go cart racing is free at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday
Poultry judging will begin at 9 a.m. Youth open exhibits and judging are from 9 a.m. to noon.
Miss Chippewa County Fair will be introduced at 7:30 p.m. The U.S.A. Demolition Derby will be at 8 p.m. From 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., participants can enter breeding livestock. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be a senior citizens appreciation luncheon. At 4 p.m. the master stickman contest takes place. At 5 p.m., dog show registration takes place, followed by the dog show at 6 p.m. The livestock exhibition meeting takes place at 5:30 p.m., and at 6 p.m. there will be an ice cream social.
Wednesday
Activities begin at 9 a.m. with swine judging. Sheep judging is at 2 p.m., and the U.S.A. Demolition Derby is at 8 p.m.
Thursday
Beef judging begins at 9 a.m. Thursday. The Antique and Classic Tractor Pull begins at 9 a.m., also. At 4 p.m., there will b youth horse trail and speed classes. At 7 p.m. The Thumb Tractor Pullers tractor and truck pull takes place.
Friday
At 9 am. Friday, there will be a youth horse show, followed by dairy judging at 10 a.m. Also at 9 a.m.. there will be a garden tractor pull, followed by a frame stock tractor pull at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., goat judging takes place. At 12:30 p.m., harness horse racing takes place. At 7:30 p.m., there will be stock car racing.
Saturday
Saturday's festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a draft horse show. Another garden tractor pull is at 9 a.m. At noon, there will be a market livestock buyers' dinner. At 1:30 p.m., there will be a market livestock sale, and a Lions Club steak fry will be at 1 p.m. Harness horse racing takes place at 12:30 p.m. An evening antique tractor parade takes place at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. are the Dafter Lions Club mud runs.
Sunday
An open horse show begins Sunday's events at 8 a.m. Also at 8 a.m., the weigh-in of lightweight teams will begin, and continue until 10 a.m. Worship services take place at 9 a.m. At 9 a.m., another garden tractor pull takes place, followed by an antique and classic tractor pull at 11:30 a.m. A pony pull is at 11 a.m., and a lightweight horse pull is at 1 p.m. Harness racing is at 12:30 p.m. A heavyweight horse pull is at 2 p.m. At 3 p.m., there will be a chili cook off. At 5 p.m., there will be a tri-county speed horse contest. At 7 p.m., there will be gospel music.
Monday
Monday, September 1, there will be a garden tractor pull at 9 a.m., a car show at 10 a.m., and a chicken barbecue at 11 a.m. Pedal pushers takes place at 12:30 p.m., followed by the release of open and youth exhibits at 2 p.m.
