Calcaterra, Slack Complete Military Basic Training

Mario Calcaterra IV Mario Calcaterra IV Airman Mario Calcaterra IV, of St. Ignace, was graduated with honors from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas in July. Airman Calcaterra is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, where he is receiving specialty training in security. He will be transferred to Korea at the end of October.

He is the son of Becky and Mario Calcaterra III, and the grandson of Dolores and Mario Calcaterra II and Jane and the late Grant Simmons, all of St. Ignace.

Army Reserve Private Keith Slack was graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma.

He is a 1982 graduate of Engadine High School.

During the nine weeks of training, Pvt. Slack studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
