St. Ignace, Cedarville Volleyball Teams Compete at Sault Tourney

St. Ignace Registers 6-8 Record

at Sault Tournament

The St. Ignace Saints volleyball team went to the semifinals of the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational before falling to the host Blue Devils, 10-21 and 10-21, and the Saints' Marcie Rickley was named to the all-tournament team Saturday, August 23.

The Saints, 6-8 on the day, opened the invitational by sweeping Newberry 21-13 and 21-12. They then lost to Cedarville 14-21 and 14-21, lost to Sault Ste. Marie 10-21 and 15-21, swept Rudyard 21-17 and 21-14, and beat Pickford 21-17 and 21-14, before closing out pool play with a 6-6 mark after Petoskey swept the Saints 14-21 and 8-21.

"Overall I was pleased with our effort," said Saints Coach Gracia Marshall. "We played well together and executed well at times, but down the stretch we got tired after playing six consecutive matches."

Cedarville advanced to the semifinal match of the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational before falling to Petoskey 11-21 and 14-21, and the Trojans' Billie McLeod was selected to the all-tournament team Saturday, August 23.

The Trojans, 6-8 on the day, opened pool play against Petoskey and were defeated by the Northwomen 9-21 and 6-21, but Coach Kathy Trevarrow's squad swept St. Ignace 21-14 and 21-14 and Pickford 21-12 and 21-13, split with Newberry 19-21 and 21- 4 and Rudyard 10-21 and 21-19, and fell to the host Blue Devils 11- 21 and 12-21 to place third in pool play.

"We played well at times, and for the first time on the court in a game situation, I was pleased," said Coach Trevarrow. "We also need to work on different aspects of our game."

Cedarville stats: Billie McLeod 23 kills, eight block kills, two aces; Jillian Collins, 49 assists, three aces; Jessie Duncan, 13 kills, six aces, one block kill; Jenna Arnold, 12 kills, five aces, three block kills; Ashley Sweeney, 13 aces, seven kills; Kacie Simpson, 10 kills, one ace.
