Pickford
The results of the Pickford 4-H showmanship at the Chippewa County Fair at Kinross are coming in slowly. Carrie and Glen Cryderman, leaders of the Noah's Ark 4-H Club, said that the club took an overall "Best Decorated Exhibit¿" with a $50 prize.
Taylor Miller took Grand Champion in steers. Taylor was there from the start, begining with artificial insemination at the Cryderman's farm, also the steer's birth, purchase, and raising the animal. Taylor and her family, Travis, Jill, and brother, Mitchell, were featured in The St. Ignace News April 10, standing with a steer.
The grand champion in swine raising was Chelsea Kronemeyer, and reserve winner was her sister, Lindsey Kronemeyer. Their parents are Jim and Toni, who reside west of their grandparents, Johnand Julia Kronemeyer on Taylor Road in Pickford.
Grand Champion in sheep was Derrick Leese, whose parents are Gordon and Linda Leese of 24 Mile Road.
Tom Lamb took a Grand Championship with his turkey, which sold for $200. Tom's parents are Rob and Lynn Lamb of Pennington Road in Pickford.
Grand Champion Meat Pen chicken winner was Lance Cryderman, reported his mother, Carrie Cryderman, who added that Lance did not sell his prized pet chicken, "Billy Bob" (pictured earlier this year with Lance in The St. Ignace News). Mrs. Cryderman was pleased with how well the Pickford area was represented, the showmanship of all the Noah's Ark members, and their accomplishments.
Next week there will be more on the 4-H, Speed and Action results, as well as the results of the Stalwart Fair.
Just north of Pickford is Ledys Auto Sales, where a garage sale was held last Saturday by Kim Ledy and her mother, Penny Kovacs. A sign on the table said, "Sorry no checks, please." When I asked why, Mrs. Ledy said because she was stiffed last year, "and it was a kind-looking old lady with an honest smile."
Jed and Dan Fick of Pickford were invited to their uncle Mac Ficks 90th birthday party in Lapeer at their aunt Jeanette Crutchfield's home Sunday, September 7. Their sister and niece, Michele Fiering and Jewell, of Hessel, attended the birthday celebration, where there were approximately 60 guests present.
