St.Ignace
The big St. Ignace truck show will be Friday, September 12, through Sunday, September 14. A new event this year will be an antique tractor parade over the Mackinac Bridge. Enjoy the Parade of Lights in downtown St. Ignace Saturday, September 13.
Kayley Lasley, daughter of Donna and Willie LaLonde, recently enjoyed a visit in St. Ignace. While home, she spent a day with her mother, grandmother Sharron Lasley, sister Mallory, and aunts, Lara Gustafson and Lynn Yoder, in Petoskey, picking out a dress for her upcoming wedding. She was visiting from New York.
Many St. Ignace folks participated in various events at the Chippewa County Fair last week. A LaSalle High School graduate, Erika Swirsky, was the first runner up in the fair queen contest.
In a mud run Saturday, August 30, David Blair, George Rickley, and Jim West took places. Bridget West also participated, as well as Marcie Rickley, for her first time. Bridget West was the lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing.
In past news reports, I'm sorry to have omitted the name of James Pollard, who also attended the Blueberry Festival in Paradise, with his friend, Aaron Welch, and Aaron's parents, Kim and Mikc Welch.
Bonnie Stuart of Epoufette and Horton visited the Farmers Insurance vehicle on display at the St. Ignace marina parking lot Friday, August 29. Jason Smith (left) and Robert Holmes of Farmers Insurance in St. Ignace gave her a tour of the vehicle designed to handle insurance claims on site at natural disaster areas. The truck's equipment includes a solar panel, generator, and satellite television and telephone. I bumped into Laurie (nee Belonga) Schiderson of Dafter, and she told me she and her husband, Bill, are retired now. Laurie is a 1968 graduate of LaSalle High School in St. Ignace.
Belated birthday wishes to Mandy (nee Fenlon) Scott, who celebrated September 4. I didn't realize she and her father, Jerry Fenlon, share the same birthday.
Paul Crystal of Pasadena, California, is enjoying two months in his hometown with his family and friends.
I was glad to see Alice and Don Howe out in the neighborhood, as each has been hospitalized recently.
Jean Hague reports that the Touch of Craft shop has been successful this summer. The annual luncheon for volunteer workers will be Wednesday, September 17, at noon at the Galley restaurant. The last day of business will be Friday, September 19. Crafters are asked to pick up their items before that date.
Please keep Kay McKenzie in your prayers, as she continues to recuperate following complications from surgery. I received word Wednesday, September 3, that Kay is doing better.
Trevor Blair, 13, was excited to spot a black bear for the first time. Trevor was riding with his father, Dave Blair, on Charles Moran Road Sunday, August 31, in the early afternoon. The bear was estimated to weigh between 250 and 275 pounds.
Art Orofino called the newspaper office to report that the Farmington High School Class of 1946 reunion will be taking place at the Best Western in St. Ignace this week. Abotu 30 classmates and their spouses are expected to be in town at least through Thursday, September 11. Mr. Orofino says the group really enjoys having their reunions in St. Ignace, and has done so for 11 years.
"We'll be coming up there for reunions as long as we have classmates," Mr. Orofino said. The school is in Farmington. We're glad they enjoy our St. Ignace hospitality.
September is a nice time of year for hiking or a country ride.
