Senior Tyler Oja intercepted four passes, returning one for a 50-yard touchdown, another in the end zone to stall a scoring threat, caught one pass for a 31- yard scoring strike, and rushed for 43 yards to lead St. Ignace to a 37-25 non-conference Parents Night win over East Jordan at Saints Field Friday, September 5.

"Tyler had a career game with his effort. He was at the right place at the right time," said Saints Coach Marty Spencer. "As a team, we need to tackle better and cut down our turnovers."

East Jordan struck early as Michael Hines returned the opening kickoff 45 yards to the Saints 34, and on the first play from scrimmage, Michael Mumich completed a halfback option pass to Hines for the touchdown and a 6-0 lead, with just 18 seconds off the clock.

The teams traded pass interceptions and following Anthony Lester's pick, St. Ignace marched 51 yards on seven plays with Gerrit Mortensen diving over from the one-yard line for the touchdown. The junior kicked the first of his four extra points to give the Saints a 7-6 at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter.

Oja's standout game started with his first interception for a 50-yard touchdown with 4:11 left in the first 12 minutes, to give the Saints a 14-6 advantage.

Andy Tamlyn recovered the Red Devils fumble that set up a 29-yard field goal by Mortensen to increase the St. Ignace lead to 17-6 in the closing minute of the first quarter.

Oja's second pick came in the end zone to stall an East Jordan scoring threat, but the Red Devils scored on their next possession as Teddy Snowden plunged over on a one-yard quarterback sneak to cut the Saints lead to 17-13 at halftime.

Oja continued his outstanding play on defense with his third interception, and at 4:10 of the third quarter combined with Mortensen on a 31- yard scoring strike for a 24-13 margin. He completed his play with a fourth interception that led to Lester's 22-yard rushing touchdown, to build the lead to 31-13.
