Saints, Comets Compete on Cross Country Trails

Nicole Elmblad St. Ignace Nicole Elmblad St. Ignace The St. Ignace and Mackinaw City cross country teams competed on the trials, with the Saints traveling to the East Jordan Invitational and the Comets hosting a Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) Jamboree Wednesday, September 3.

The Saints girls finished eighth and the boys placed 10th at East Jordan. Harbor Springs won the girls and boys divisions, with Elk Rapids placing second.

The Rams tallied 45 points in the girls class, followed by the Elks with 78 points, Pine River 83, Traverse City St. Francis 107, Kingsley 122, Cheboygan 130, Rogers City 174, St. Ignace 192, Boyne City 234, and East Jordan 291.

Harbor Springs recorded 31 points to win the boys division, followed by Elk Rapids with 54, Traverse City St. Francis 86, Kingsley 104, Onaway 134, Rogers City 225, Gaylord St. Mary 230, Roscommon 256, Cheboygan 259, St. Ignace 263, Pine River 265, Central Lake 299, Boyne City 301, and Mancelona 330.

Saints girls results: Nicole Elmblad 17th place in 21:53, Kristen Olsen 43rd in 23:53, Grace Wheeler 52nd in 24:24, Ivy Thurston 56th in 25:19, Stacy Goldthorpe 61st in 25:56, Sara Tafelski 62nd in 26:08, and Kayla Gustin 72nd in 27:45.

Devon Chargo St. Ignace Devon Chargo St. Ignace Saints boys results: Devon Chargo 38th place in 19:40, Kaiden Shiemke 47th in 20:21, Patrick Sweeney 55th in 20:44, Kevin Guillard 65th in 21:31, Ben Paul 74th in 22:38, Joe Snowaert 75th in 22:40, and Lewis Steiner 86th in 24:53.

The winning time in the girls event was 19:46.4, and boys was 15:40.4.

Comets Boys Third,

Girls Fourth

Mackinaw City boys finished third and the girls fourth during the first NLC meet of the season.

Wolverine won the boys meet with 26 points, followed by Ellsworth with 47, Mackinaw City 54, Alba 117, and Boyne Falls 124. In the girls meet, Wolverine took first with 53 points, followed by Ellsworth with 49, Alba and Boyne Falls 70, and Mackinaw City 89.

Mackinaw City boys placed three in the top 10 and five in the first 20 runners, while the Comets girls placed two in the top 10 and three in the first 20.

Comets girls results: Kristina Heilman ninth in 23:23, Hailee Paquet 10th in 23:27, Courtney Wallis 17th in 25:00, Tierney Bell 23rd in 26:01, Hannah Morse 31st in 28:50, Taelar Steward 33rd in 29:30, and Amber Wallis 35th in 30:30.

The winning time in the boys meet was 15:58, and the girls time was 21:47.

St. Ignace Jr. High Runners

Sarah Cullip finished the event in second place with a time of 13:36, Rachel Hetherington fifth in 15:18, Rebecca LaLonde 16th in 17:47, and Savannah Seccia 23rd in 20:21 Andrew Sjogren placed seventh in 14:21, Kacey Bunker eighth in 14:38, Jacob Sjogren 13th in 16:18, Ellis Graham 20th in 17:37, Devin Harju 23rd in 19:08, Martin Donajkowski 25th in 20:45, and Zack Major 26th in 24:58.
