In last week's newspaper issue, on page 26, a photograph of Teresa Kamper of Pickford was mislabeled as Kassandra Rader of Pickford, the Chippewa County Fair Queen. The correct photograph of Miss Rader appears here. Miss Rader was crowned queen Sunday, August 24. She is the daughter of Brian and Melanie Rader.

Miss Kamper is also pictured here, as a contestant in the Tri- County Speed and Action Association horse show at the Stalwart fairgrounds Saturday, September 13. Two young ladies were contestants from Pickford. Tiffany McCord had an 11-second time in the "up and back" event, and Teresa Kamper's time was 12 seconds. Miss Kamper and her brother, Jonathan, had many placings in the speed and action events at the Chippewa County Fair in August, also.

The American Veterans of Foreign Wars displayed their colors at the Pickford football game last Friday, September 19, following the Canadian and American national anthems. Members include Jim Miller, Dave Spencer, district representative for the Eastern Upper Peninsula, Stan Schmitigal, and Stan Kennedy, all of Pickford.

Pickford Post 323 recently received, from the American Legion Department of Michigan committee for Children and Youth, the state award for the most outstanding Children and Youth Program in the Department of Michigan.

The Pickford Panthers played against the Wolverines of White Pine High School in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. McKinley Portice made the first touchdown of the game and the Panthers won 40 to 38, in overtime. Mr. Portice is the son of Calvin and Sharon Portice. He has a sister, Kaylynn, who is attending college in Grand Rapids.

Don't forget the free concert Saturday, September 27, beginning at 1 p.m. at Pickford Park, with free refreshments.

Lucy Godin was the lucky winner when the Pickford Historical Society raffled a quilt Tuesday, September 9, with proceeds used for the maintenance of the museum. A surrey with a fringe on top was sold at auction this Saturday, September 20, in Goetzville, for the Historical Society. The high bidder was Tim Curtis, who has the Amish furniture store on Main Street in Pickford, so the surrey returned to town.
