Beach Clean-up Is Family Project

Owen Powell, 6, of St. Ignace, and his family have been cleaning up the beach along Pte. Aux Chenes for the last two years. Saturday, September 20, the family spent two hours, and covered less than a mile, to collect 10.5 pounds of trash, most of it food wrappers; 42 of them were counted, reported Owen's mother, Jennifer Powell. She noted that Saturday was "Adopt a Beach" day, part of the annual International Coastal Clean-up coordinated by The Ocean Conservancy in Washington, D.C.
