DeTour Riders Raise $5,800 for Charity
On horseback during the Albany Trail Ride are (from left) Allison Scott, Amanda Fairchild, Amie Bennett, Brent Scott, Tess Hoey, DeAnna Dutcher, Denise Conroy, and Stephanie Doane. The second annual Albany Trail Ride raised more than $5,800 for Camp Quality, a camp for young cancer patients, Saturday, September 13, in DeTour.
Karen Bennett, owner of the Albany Restaurant in DeTour, is the organizer of the ride. Inspired by the Tough Enough to Wear Pink horseback riding and rodeo events to raise money for breast cancer prevention, Mrs. Bennett wanted to establish a local cancer fundraising event for horseback riders like herself.
The 36 registered riders began their 20 mile ride at the restaurant, heading east through hardwoods, on two-track roads, over bridges, and along Lake Huron. At the half-way spot, the riders enjoyed a chuck wagon lunch and campfire.
Those who would like to be notified for next year's Albany Trail Ride may contact Karen Bennett at (906) 297-8321. Riders must bring their own horses to participate.
