EUP Students Gather To Address Self-Improvement

2008-09-25 / News

Student leaders from Chippewa, Mackinac, and Luce counties in grades nine through 11 will gather in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to discuss the strengths of their communities and how to be strong community assets. They will meet at the Cisler Student and Conference Center at Lake Superior State University (LSSU).

The program is entitled the Youth Asset Summit. It remains open for students who have not been registered.

The goal is to empower youths to strengthen their characters and that of their peers.

They will study the results of the "Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors" survey, which was given to students in sixth, eighth, 10th, and 12th grades in Luce County in 2006, and to 10th and 12th grade students in Chippewa and Mackinac counties in 2007.

Findings from the summit will be shared with the community at a number of upcoming venues, such as the 40 Secrets to Healthy Youth workshop at the Chippewa County Health Department October 29.

The summit is hosted by the Chippewa County Community Assessment Committee, Youth and Family Sub-committee; and Great Lakes Center for Youth Development, in conjunction with Michigan State University Extension and LSSU.

For more information, or to register, contact the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development at (906) 228-8919, extension 10.
