Federal Law To Ban Great Lakes Water Diversions
8 States Agree on Water Resources Compact
      An agreement has been reached among Great Lakes states to manage the nation's largest fresh surface water resource and protect it from depletion with a federal law that bans new water diversions from the Great Lakes Basin. Called the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact, it was approved by the Senate in August and by the U.S.

Engraved Bricks Offered as Hospital Fundraiser
      Leading to the entrance of the new hospital in St. Ignace will be a brick walkway in a landscaped area. The bricks will be engraved with the names of donors contributing to the hospital's $3 million fundraising campaign. Donors can request up to three lines of 16 letters each for a $50 contribution.

IRS Audits St. Ignace
      Final documents were sent to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Friday, September 26, following an audit of The City of St. Ignace that focused on maintaining tax forms of independent contractors and the city's payment to them. A report on the audit is expected in October.

Planners Updating City's Wind Turbine Ordinance
St. Ignace Planning Commission
      With local and state interest growing in wind turbines as an energy source, the St. Ignace Planning Commission agreed to revise a six-year-old wind turbine ordinance at its meeting Wednesday, September 24. When the commission updates the city's master plan next year, it will also include measures to direct any proposed development of the turbines.

Bayside Fall Fest Is Saturday
St. Ignace
     Pumpkins will roll, pies will fly, and scarecrows will line State Street during the St. Ignace Bayside Fall Fest Saturday, October 4. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 8 p.m., and most are free.
