Lakers Soccer Sweeps Islanders; Volleyball Team Splits
The Mackinac Island Lakers soccer team swept the Beaver Island Islanders and the Lakers volleyball team split with the Islanders during a weekend Northern Lights League (NLL) series Friday, September 26, and Saturday, September 27.
In soccer, the Lakers defeated Beaver Island 7-3 Friday, 7-0 Saturday, and had upended the Munising Bobcats Monday, September 22, to improve their overall record to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the NLL.
Paul Fisher's play was outstanding in goal, allowing just three goals in three games.
"Everyone is getting involved and that has been the key to our success," said Lakers Coach Mary Patay.
The Lakers will host the Grand Marais Polar Bears in an NLL weekend series Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4.

Lakers Volleyball Splits With Islanders
Mackinac Island defeated Beaver Island (25-20, 21-25, 25- 22, 14-25, 15-12) Friday, September 26, but lost to the Islanders (20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25) Saturday, September 27.
The Lakers will host Grand Marais Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, Maplewood Baptist Academy Tuesday, October 7, will host the Lakers Invitational Saturday, October 11, and entertain Ojibwe-Brimley Tuesday, October 14.
