Rexton-Garnet
With a little tinge of frost on a few mornings, Mother Nature is wearing her fall attire. One of the prettiest times of the year in our tiny towns is occurring, as folks hurry to get up the last cord of wood, winterize so the pipes don't freeze, and move things around in the garage to get the car in once again.
I received an enjoyable phone call Sunday evening, October 5, from Helen Dyer Dowd who, along with her husband, Charlie, are here from Niceville, Florida, visiting family and friends. Helen, who is still working, and Charlie, who is enjoying retirement, will return home this week. Charlie interrupted his vacation with a five-day stay at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. All is well now for the return trip. While here, they enjoyed visiting with Helen's brothers and their wives, Jim and Ann Dyer and Al and Lorraine Dyer, and her sister, Dorothy Glashaw, all within shouting distance of the place where they grew up.
The Livermore sisters have returned from their annual getaway, with Evelyn Burgess as the captain, joined by Louella Snow, Fran Berry, and Martha Sheppard. They enjoyed a week in Virginia. Lou returned to find a new roof and siding on her home.
At the home of Dave, Robyn, Brenda, and Abby Albrecht were Dave's folks, Darryl and Vi Albrecht from New Hampton, Iowa.
The Engadine Eagles will be hosting a football game with Pickford Friday evening, October 10, and also enjoying the homecoming festivities. Come on out and support the team for a great Friday night.
Plenty of orange hats and vests could recently be seen in the area on four-wheelers and walking along the side of roads. Most of them are here for hunting season, and some must be here just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and take in some good fresh Upper Peninsula air, and quiet.
Reaching the 80-year milestone, Mary Formolo, who is usually not taken by surprise, was indeed caught off guard as her family surprised her at the Naubinway pavilion, joined by friends and neighbors to honor her on her birthday. The party was Saturday, September 27, and her birthday was Friday, September 26.
