Hello, everyone, and welcome hunters! Bird, bear, and bow season is here, and the mild weather we're having this week makes hunting enjoyable. Not that hunters complain about the weather, but it's nice to come in from the woods, dry and warm.

The Gould City Eagles 4483 welcomes members and friends to join them Saturday, October 11, for a day on the Toonerville Trolley. Riders will pay their own admission fees. Anyone interested in joining the group may call the Gould City Eagles at (906) 477-9964, or stop by for more information. The same day, the Eagles will host a pig roast at 5 p.m. at the club. Music by Ted Poli will follow. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Curtis Area Chamber of Commerce presents the 13th annual Harvest Moon Ball Saturday, October 11, at the Erickson Center. Cocktails will be at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by Tommy Vale and the Torpedoes. Tickets are $40 per person, and a cash bar will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office, Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn, and Curtis Service. For more information, call (906) 586-3700.

The Engadine and Cedarville volleyball teams will compete Thursday, October 23, at 6 p.m. at a special "Dig Pink" event in the high school gymnasium at Engadine. The event will raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. This event is sponsored by the Naubinway Family Health Clinic, and the Engadine, Rudyard, and Brimley school health clinics.

The Curtis Women's Club will sponsor a Halloween party Friday, October 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Curtis Community Building. Costume judging will be at 7 p.m. There will be games, prizes, cider, doughnuts, costume judging, and a cake walk.

Condolences to the family of Terry LaForest, a lifelong resident of Newberry, who passed away Wednesday, September 24, at his home, surrounded by his family. Please keep his wife, family, and friends in your prayers.
