Demolition of the Mackinac Ford Sales garage and show room on US-2 near St. Ignace began early Monday, October 6, and was finished the following day.

Demolition was slowed Monday afternoon by gusty winds, said Wade Huskey of Art Huskey and Sons Excavating of St. Ignace.

The building, built in 1957, was destroyed by an early morning fire August 4. A fire investigator has determined the cause to be arson.

Owners Paul and Joe Krause have yet to determine when they will rebuild. In the meantime, a temporary office building has been placed on site. A second garage area that was attached to the main building on the west side suffered smoke damage but was salvageable, and is now in use, said Joe Krause.

The Krauses have also refurbished another building, further west on the property, re-cementing the floor and installing two hoists to use as a service area for the business.
