Engadine Places 2nd at St. Ignace Mackinac Sales Volleyball Invitational
Elisa Hobbs Engadine The Engadine Eagles finished second, behind the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils during the 2008 St. Ignace Mackinac Sales Volleyball Invitational Saturday, September 27.
Sault Ste. Marie and the Cheboygan Chiefs, both 8-0 in regular tournament play, the Eagles, who went 6-2, and the Cedarville Trojans, who evened out at 4-4, advanced to the final four, with Engadine defeating the Chiefs and the Blue Devils upending the Trojans in the semifinals.
Engadine swept Inland Lakes (25-23, 25-17), Escanaba (25-19, 25-14), and Newberry (25-21, 25- 14), but fell to the Blue Devils in two games (19-25, 19-25).
In the semifinals, the Eagles downed the Chiefs in two games (26-24, 25-23) before running out of gas in the championship match to
Sault Ste. Marie, losing 13-25 and 12-25.
"We were excited to win the semifinal match against Cheboygan,
but didn't
have anything left for the finals," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller. "Playing the larger schools, Cheboygan and Sault Ste. Marie, both Class B, will prepare us for the post season tourney."

The Trojans swept Manistique in two games (25-14, 25-15), split with St. Ignace (25-17, 21-25), and Rudyard (19-25, 25-18), and were defeated by Cheboygan in two games (16-25, 20-25).
Cedarville's Billie McLeod was named to the all-tournament team.
The St. Ignace Saints completed tourney play with a 4-4 record, defeating Manistique in two games (25-19, 25-14), splitting with Cedarville (17-25, 25-21) and Rudyard (20-25, 25-15), and losing to Cheboygan in two games (23-25, 18-25).
St. Ignace's Amanda Coveyou was named to the all-tournament team.
The Rudyard Bulldogs also finished 4-4, defeating Manistique in two games (25-20, 25-21), splitting with Cedarville (25-19, 18-25) and St. Ignace (20-25, 25-15), and losing to Cheboygan in two games (18-25, 18-25).
The Bulldogs' Betsy Wileman was named to the all-tournament team.
