With the sun shining brightly on the changing colors of the leaves, the view driving on any local highway is spectacular. Pumpkins and scarecrows appearing on residential porches are a sure sign that preparations are underway for that special night, Halloween.
The women of Wilderness Tabernacle are planning their annual fall luncheon Saturday, October 18, at 12:30 p.m. There is no charge, but it is requested to bring a nonperishable item for the food pantry. For more information, call Linda Adams at (906) 297-2921.

The crowning of the school's king and queen of the Harvest Ball will be Thursday, October 23. This event will take place between the two volleyball games, which also is Parent's Night, at which time the athletes will honor their parents. The students vying for king and queen are seniors J.J. Aldrich, Taryn Miller, Zack Melvin, Dan Parris, Vicki Mills, Shelby Thomas, Jessica Bowman, and Megan Harsin; juniors Josh Bosley and Sarah Raabe; sophomores Brandon Kurkierewcz and Bailey Miller, and freshmen Kyle Kostoff and Stephanie Leazier.
Friends and relatives extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Ernie Van Houten, husband of Elna, who passed away Friday, October 10. Visitation was Monday, October 13, with a service Tuesday, October 14, officiated by Deacon Charles Krahnke of Drummond Island Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran in DeTour. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ralph Shiplett, who had knee surgery this week in Marquette.
