Heilman Sets Mackinaw City XC Record; Elmblad Ranks First in SAC
Kristina Heilman Mackinaw City Junior captain Kristina Heilman set a new Mackinaw City girls cross country school record with a time of 21:09 during a quadrangular meet at the Headlands Trails in Mackinaw City Thursday, October 9.
The daughter of Charlie and Kathy (nee Swanson) Heilman shattered the record by 24 seconds that was held by Ciara McVey (21:33) in 2007.
Heilman's previous best time was 22:14, which was set earlier this season.
Mackinaw City's boys and girls teams dominated the competition, as both teams took first place in their respective divisions.
For the girls, the Comets finished first with 32 points, edging out the Saints with 37 points, followed by Pickford with 76 and Cedarville 81.
In the boys division, the Comets placed first with 21 points, followed by St. Ignace with 41, Cedarville 63, and Pickford 106.

The Saints' Nicole Elmbald is ranked first in the Straits Area Conference (SAC) in running after the final league meet in Rogers City Tuesday, October 7.
Kevin Guillard St. Ignace The LaSalle High School sophomore totaled four points and defeated Tori Overton of Cheboygan with eight points.
At Tuesday's event, Cheboygan finished first in the girls division, followed by Sault Ste. Marie, Newberry, St. Ignace, Rogers City, Cedarville, Rudyard, Pickford.
In the boys division, Rudyard won the team title, followed by Sault Ste. Marie, Cheboygan, Rogers City, Newberry, Cedarville, St. Ignace, DeTour, and Pickford.
Girls Division
The top 50 area runners from St. Ignace, Cedarville, and Pickford include Brandi Kopitz of Pickford (6th overall), Jessie Duncan of Cedarville (11th), Kristen Olsen of St. Ignace (15th), Callie Smith of Pickford (17th), Sara Tafelski of St. Ignace (27th), Billie McLeod (28th), Emily Windberg (29th), and Erin Currie (30), all of Cedarville, Grace Wheeler of St. Ignace (32nd), Jillian Collins of Cedarville (40th), Megan Arbic of Pickford (41st), and Stacy Goldthorpe of St. Ignace (45th).
