Halloween was a busy day for the youth in DeTour Village. The school party was held Friday afternoon, when students dressed in costume enjoyed treats and games. In the evening, they took to the streets to visit area homes and the first Trunk or Treat. Fifteen vehicles parked in the lot at the Union Presbyterian Church to distribute candy, prizes, hot chocolate, cider, and cookies to almost 100 children and hot coffee to parents. Debbie Fountain helped with organization, Jennie Brussow helped with coffee, Sune's Grocery contributed cups and hot chocolate, and Bill Mordecai supplied cider.
The girls varsity and junior varsity basketball teams held a can drive Saturday, November 1. All of the team members spent Saturday morning and most of the afternoon collecting and returning soda pop cans to raise money for team activities and clothing. To date, the girls have raised $738 and are still counting and collecting cans. If you have cans to donate, call Sarah Adams at (906)630-8807.
Crowned King and Queen at the DeTour Harvest Ball are Shelby Thomas (left) and Teryn Miller. Thursday, November 6, is the date for student-led conferences for the sixth through 12th grades and regular parent teacher conferences for kindergarten to fifth grade. Conferences will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7:30pm. Middle school students will have an opportunity to display their academic skills when they participate in the annual Quiz Bowl at Cedarville Wednesday, November 5, at 4 p.m.
The members of Union Presbyterian Church are working hard on items for their annual Bbzaar and soup luncheon Saturday, December 6, during Village Christmas. New this year will be the sale of cookies and fudge by the pound. The annual Christmas wreath sale is also a favorite for bazaar patrons. The wreaths, which are handmade with fresh greens, will again sell for $12.50. To place advance orders, call Verna Fountain at 297-8400.
David Rhinard has announced that casting is complete and rehearsals have begun for the E.U.P. Fine Arts Council production of "A Christmas Carol." In addition to directing, David will play Scrooge with Sean Fountain as Bob Cratchit, Chase Livingston as Fred and young Scrooge, Cameron Livingston as Tiny Tim, Paula Bosley as Mrs. Cratchit, Ralph Shiplett as Jacob Marley's Ghost, Bob Vaught and Olive Warner as Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig, Albert Fountain as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Scott Bosley as Tom Jenkins, Keegan Fountain as Fred's wife, Megan Harsin as Isabel, and Heather VanDaele as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Also appearing as Cratchit family members and other Londoners are: Robert Bloom, Cindy Dudeck, Tyler Soule, Jake Dudeck, Leo Dudeck, Jordan Scott, Alexis Scott, Kaalin Goetz, and Darlene Jarmisch. Performances will be December 4, 5, and 6 in the evening with a Sunday matinee December 7
The members of the Botanical Garden Group will meet this Thursday, November 6, at 1 p.m. at the Village Hall, the Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday, November 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the library, and the E.U.P. Fine Arts Council and DeTour Area Chamber of Commerce meet Wednesday, November 12, at the Village Hall at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
