Les Cheneaux
We were certainly very sorry to learn of the loss of one of the Les Cheneaux Islands' beloved summer citizens with the recent death of Ken Horsburgh. Ken, always happy and upbeat, was always an enthusiastic supporter of the islands. He will be missed by all.
A mistake was made in this column last week with the mention of food donations to the Cedar Pantry. It should have been the Cedar Post. (I think the key word was "pantry" - when one thinks of food, one thinks of a pantry. Sorry.) In the meantime, we hope that the Cedar Post continues to receive many donations to distribute to those who need them.
Thanksgiving and the holidays are just around the corner and it seems that the year has gone so fast. Gas prices have dipped considerably, making it easier for students and families to travel during the holidays.
Veterans Day is on the agenda Tuesday, November 11. There will be a memorial program in the Duncan Gymnasium at the school for those who wish to remember loved ones on that day beginning at 10:10 a.m. Members of the VFW are there to honor members of all of the branches of service, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Corps. Everyone is welcome to attend this service.
University of Michigan students running in the Detroit Marathon Sunday, October 19, were (from left) Ricardo Robles, Lauren Izzard, Dustin Tassier, Patrick Moore, and Rebecca Bickham. Miss Izzard, Mr. Tassier, and Miss Bickham are from the Les Cheneaux area, and were mentioned in Helen Shoberg's column last week. (Photograph courtesy of Lauren Izzard) Christmas trees to be decorated for the Historical Museum Open House and tree auction on the weekends of November 27 and December 6 have been distributed to those who will participate. There is one in my house and it is a lot of fun planning the theme and decorations for the tree.
Congratulations to the Cedarville Trojans, who won their predistrict game against Gaylord St. Mary's Friday evening. They now will play St. Ignace for the district title. We can certainly be proud of our players and coaches and wish them success in their next game.
