The St. Ignace News Welcomes Two New Reporters
Jonathan Eppley The St. Ignace News has welcomed two new writers to its staff, John S. DeMott, originally of Mount Clemens, and Jonathan Eppley, formerly of Port Huron.
Mr. Eppley, 27, is a recent graduate of the journalism program at Wayne State University in Detroit and was hired at The St. Ignace News October 13. He had served two journalism internships before starting his new job, one at Crain's Detroit Business and another at Metro Times in Detroit. He resides in St. Ignace.
He will cover news from the Les Cheneaux and Pickford areas, including the schools, Clark Township Board of Trustees, and its planning commission, as well as a wide variety of community organizations there, and other news stories by assignment.
Mr. DeMott, 71, started work October 1, and has worked 50 years in journalism with magazines, including Time, Newsweek, Nation's Business, and Red Herring, and newspapers, including Charlotte Observer, San Francisco Examiner, and The Monitor of McAllen, Texas.
John S. DeMott He is a 1959 graduate of University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and was a journalism student of Professor Wesley Maurer Sr., publisher emeritus of The St. Ignace News, The Weekly Wave, and Mackinac Island Town Crier.
Mr. DeMott will cover news of the Mackinaw City area, Brevort Township, Moran Township, and Gros Cap School, as well as other news stories by assignment.
Paul Gingras, who formerly covered these beats for The St. Ignace News, relocated to Oregon in late September to pursue other career interests.
