Paquin, Mortensen, Murray Receive High Football Awards From U.P.S.S.A.

C.J. Paquin C.J. Paquin Several local high school football players were recognized at the 59th annual meeting of the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association in Escanaba Thursday, October 30.

Senior C.J. Paquin of Cedarville was an unanimous selection for Class D quarterback of the year and Class D Offensive Player of the Year.

Paquin received 13 votes in the player of the year balloting, while Mike Miller of North Dickinson was second with seven votes.

Junior Gerrit Mortensen of St. Ignace was unanimous choice as All-Class Dream Team kicker, while senior Luke Murray of Cedarville was named to the All-Class Dream Team as a receiver.

Area Class A-B-C Honors

Mortensen received first team punter, special mention at quarterback; Todd Anderson of Rudyard was selected as firstteam receiver; Tyler Oja of St. Ignace was a special mention for defensive back; receiving honorable mention were Andy Tamlyn, Gunnar Zipp, Anthony Lester, and Austin St. Louis of St. Ignace, and Aaron Diepenhorst of Rudyard.

Chad Anderson of Sault Ste. Marie was named to the All- Class Dream Team; Caleb Vizina, as first team guard; and Derek Horde, honorable mention, for defensive back.

Gerrit Mortensen Gerrit Mortensen Area Class D

Honors Receiving first team honors from Cedarville was Josh Wilson at center and James Mitchell at tackle. On defense, defensive end Jordan Huff and linebacker Zach McFarlane were recognized.

Engadine Eagles' Phillip Hood was named to the first team at defensive back and Michael Klobucher was named first team kicker. Mickael Cantin of Pickford was named to the first team at the running back position.

Area Coaches Honored

The Saints' Marty Spencer received special mention honors as Class A-B-C coach of the year, and Scott Barr of Cedarville received special mention as top Class D coach.

Players, Coaches, Teams Pat Flood of Iron Mountain was named Class A-B-C Offensive Player of the Year and Jacob Pederson of Menominee as Defensive Player of the Year.

Tyler McGaha of Baraga was named Class D's Defensive Player of the Year.

Teams of the Year were presented to Kingsford in Class A-B, Iron Mountain in Class C, and Crystal Falls-Forest Park in Class D.

Luke Murray Luke Murray John Mileski of Gladstone was selected Class A-B-C Coach of the Year and Bill Santilla of Crystal Falls-Forest Park was given top coach honors in Class D.
